Welcome
I’m glad you found your way here. My goal is to offer you the resources and inspiration you need towards emotional well being, personal growth and lasting change. I am a registered individual and couple Psychotherapist, Psychologist and Counsellor working online, in Edinburgh and Haddington, East Lothian and I welcome anyone who feels that psychotherapy and counselling may be of help. Whether you’re considering just a few sessions to focus on a specific issue, or longer-term therapy, together we can map out your journey through therapy and counselling.
If you want to learn more about the mental health difficulties that I can help with, please, go to the Issues section on the website, and if you want to read more about the counselling approach I take, please, scroll down.

Why consider psychotherapy and counselling?
Challenging relationships, life events or situations can sometimes take us by surprise; other times they can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s helpful to take a step back and talk to a counsellor who can help you make sense of what is happening – not just around us, but also within us. It is in counselling that we move towards making lasting change and healing these wounds. We learn how to stop hurting others and ourselves, and start taking steps towards deeper connection and growth.
Testimonials
“As a therapist of highest integrity, a significant aspect of Maya’s strengths is her capacity to support, empathise with and facilitate the potential in individual, couple and group diversity. Her own lived experience of studying, living and working in different countries – Croatia, Slovenia, Sweden, UK – especially enhances her sensitivity.”
“I was a client and worked with Maya from October 2017 to May 2018. My counselling experience was deeply personal and incredibly transformational in the end. Maya is an absolute professional and she created a counselling environment based on high levels of trust, empathy and a real understanding of what it means to be human. This enabled me to make the change possible.”
“As Maya’s supervisor I experience Maya to be highly motivated and self-aware; always willing to expand her knowledge of self, others, and situations for the benefit of the counselling process. She is sensitive and conscientious counsellor and offers clients a safe place where they can openly explore their life situations.”
“Maya was a joy to work with in the clinical practice at the outpatient psychiatric unit within the Salhgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburgh, Sweden. She is warm, empathic and a highly competent practitioner and was an asset to the clinic and her clients.”
“I just wanted to take the time to thank you for `being with me` just the way I needed. For the first time I felt I had real space to explore myself and came to a greater awareness of how I am in the world. I always felt safe and able to go at my own pace. You`re an absolute credit to the counselling and psychotherapy profession.”
“I just wanted to write you a wee note to let you know how much our sessions have meant to me over the past year. I really don’t know where we`d be if I hadn’t come to speak to you. You`ve helped me through the darkest time of my life, when I thought there was no hope, when there was nearly nothing left of me. You`ve been a lovely, calm voice of reality, kindness, safety and hope that gave me enough strengths to keep going each day. I will miss our sessions and the comfort you brought to us, but I am also now hopeful for our future. This is mostly due to your wonderful support. So thank you with all our hearts.”
“It is a weird thought to say goodbye to someone who knows so much about yourself. Thank you so very much for being there every week. For listening and organising all those long hidden boxes on my brain shelf. For providing all those tissues and never steeling any from my box. For the right questions, wise theories and laughs at the right time. In my eyes you are a remarkable counsellor, if that counts for anything.”
“I started seeing Maya as my business had just collapsed and I was in and out of a very troubled relationship. At first I was scared to go and only did so on a friends recommendation. I felt it wasn’t going to be something for me but after a couple of sessions I felt comfortable and knew I was going to get a great deal out of the time I dedicated to the process. We worked on rebuilding my confidence and figuring out why I was the way I was in relationships.”
My Approach
Whether you want to discuss a specific issue or situation, or are looking for a more in-depth understanding of yourself, it can take courage to reach out. Counselling provides a comfortable and confidential environment to achieve this.
By listening to you, and looking at what drives you, what scares you and what motivates you, I will help guide you to the inner strength and resources that you have within yourself for making lasting change.
I offer `in the room` and online counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals and couples for issues such as anxiety, depression, relationships, sexual difficulties, stress, burnout, panic disorder, addictions, PTSD, conflicts and trauma. I have been developing my professional career for over 14 year, mainly in the field of clinical psychology and psychotherapy of adults. In a constant process of training and learning, in recent years I have been specially trained in work related stress and burnout, grief counselling, attachment, Internal Family Systems Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. My work methodology is integrative since I use tools and techniques from different approaches and I adapt to the needs of each person. I look at the person and her/his problems from a bio-psycho-social and integral perspective and work on the difficulties and symptoms both emotionally, cognitively, behaviourally and at the body level, especially taking into account the theory of attachment and its psycho-therapeutic applications.
